- Home Energy Savings Essential — fewer upgrades, big impact: attic insulation + comprehensive air sealing (including duct sealing), with rebates averaging $1,500.
Qualifying improvements for homes 10+ years old
- Replacing an AC or heat pump
- Adding attic insulation

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Austin Energy's Home Energy Savings program?
Home Energy Savings is a whole-home approach to energy efficiency. Austin Energy offers rebates and low-interest financing to help customers make home energy improvements — with energy bill savings and a more comfortable, more energy-efficient home.
How much are the rebates?
The Standard Whole Home Approach offers rebates averaging $3,000 with comprehensive energy upgrades. Home Energy Savings Essential offers fewer upgrades with big impact — rebates averaging $1,500. Rebate amounts and eligibility are set by Austin Energy and depend on your home and the improvements installed.
Do I qualify?
To qualify for rebates, your home should be 10 years old or older and receive at least three qualifying energy efficiency improvements: replacing an AC or heat pump, adding attic insulation, installing solar screens, or air infiltration and duct sealing. You must be an Austin Energy residential electric customer. One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning of Northwest Austin confirms eligibility during your free in-home estimate.
What is Home Energy Savings Essential?
Essential is the streamlined path: two measures — attic insulation and comprehensive air sealing (duct sealing is now required as part of comprehensive air sealing) — with rebates averaging $1,500. Homes must be 10+ years old and not have completed these measures through Home Energy Savings or the Weatherization Assistance Program in the last 10 years.
Is financing available?
Yes — Austin Energy partners with Velocity Credit Union for low-interest residential energy efficiency loans on whole-home projects. (The loan is not available for the Essential program on its own.) Ask us about pairing rebates with financing during your estimate.
Who handles the paperwork?
One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning of Northwest Austin does. As a participating contractor we handle the program enrollment and rebate paperwork, coordinate Austin Energy's inspections, and make sure your project meets the program's technical specifications.
